Battle of the Somme Mural

Occasionally, that other great battle in unionist history, the Battle of the Somme during World War I, is commemorated, as in a mural painted on the Newtownards Road, East Belfast, in July 1997. It depicts soldiers of the original UVF who, as members of the 36th Ulster Division of the British army, were slaughtered in July 1916 in France.

Location and Date: newtownards Road, Belfast, 1997
