Belfast, Northern Ireland. 1986
Officers as young as 22 to 23 were normally in charge of platoons, about 35 men, and were often just out of basic training themselves. They were usually guided by their platoon Sergeants who had, as was often the case, a number of Northern Ireland tours under their belts. Here a young second lieutenant is radioing his orders to his platoon. (Paul Crispin)
