Belfast, Northern Ireland. 1986
The mobile patrols ran 24/7 and were always carried out in pairs. Each 'section' (8 men) would take it in turns to go on mobile patrol, with four men (known as a 'brick') to a vehicle. The upright bar at the front of the APV was to prevent the lookouts from being decapitated with piano wire that the terrorists would often erect across the road. (Paul Crispin)
