Irish Republican Army (IRA) statement concerning a prisoner in Mountjoy Prison, Dublin
6 September 1971

"The leadership of the Republican Movement are seriously concerned that a Republican prisoner from Belfast at present on remand in Mountjoy has been forced to wear prison clothes. Republicans have died on hunger strike in the past to obtain political treatment in 26 County prisons and we the leadership of the Republican Movement have no intention of permitting the 26 County prison authorities to impose criminal status on our comrades in prison. We demand that his own clothes be returned to the prisoner in question."

P. O Neill. Runai I.R.P.B.
[Irish Republican Publicity Bureau, Dublin.]
