| Title: | The IRA Checkpoint [No.F8P44] | | Description: | A group of children gathered at an Irish Republican Army (IRA) checkpoint on the Lecky Road, Bogside, Derry. From August 1969 to July 1972 the Bogside and Creggan districts of Derry were 'no-go' areas for the security forces. The areas were openly patrolled by members of both wings of the IRA. Indeed some 'permanent' checkpoints were built by the IRA within a few hundred metres of similar British Army posts. | | Photographer: | Eamon Melaugh | | Date Taken: | 1972 (?) | | Location: | Lecky Road, Bogside, Derry | | Copyright: | © Eamon Melaugh | CAIN Web Service
